We provide quality flight training at the Cutter Aviation Terminal located on the general aviation side of the Albuquerque Sunport.
Flight Includes:
Preflight weather briefing
Preflight of the airplane along with an introduction to aerodynamics
Discussion on the flight / engine instruments and radio / navigation equipment
Hands on flight lesson with demonstrations of some training maneuvers or an aerial tour of the city
Complimentary log book with an endorsement from your flight instructor for your first flight
Your first flight will be exciting!
On the Ground
We'll explain the features of the airplane, how to get in and out, and how to use some of the controls since you'll be flying. Once we've talked for a while on the ground, we'll get strapped in the airplane and start it up -- a show and tell of flying the airplane. Don't worry, you'll forget some of what we say and that's OK, we'll cover it all again in your ground and flying lessons. We'll taxi the airplane out to the end of the runway, make a runup check to ensure everything is working properly, and then we'll takeoff!
In the Air
Once airborne, you'll watch the ground outside get smaller as you climb higher -- relax and enjoy the experience! The exact details of your first sortie will be tailored just for you -- to make certain you are comfortable and ready for each step of the process. The flight can involve straight and level, some turns, and even a little sightseeing.
Back on the Ground
The flight will end with a landing, taxi back to the hangar, engine shutdown, and getting out of the plane. We'll explain what we're doing every step of the way. Your instructor will spend time with you answering your questions about how to get started and what you'll experience as you get your private pilot's license.

Ground School - $199
The best way we have found to learn is an integrated DVD and flight training program. You'll learn what you need for each flight from the DVDs, at your own pace, in the comfort of your own home. The DVDs will have you ready for your next flight and the flight will reinforce the things you have learned from the DVDs. We recommend the Complete Private Pilot Kit from Sporty's.
Headset - $80 to $1000
You will need a headset to listen/talk on the airplane's radios. You may want to start with an inexpensive headset for your training and upgrade later; most pilots own at least two headsets so that they have one for their passenger. Here is a review of some different headsets we found useful. There are many manufacturers of headsets, each having their own merits. Many manufacturers produce very good headsets (not a complete list):
Bose
David Clark
LightSPEED Aviation
Marv Golden
Sennheiser
Telex
Miscellaneous Pilot Supplies - $100-200
You will probably want an E6B calculator, a kneeboard, flashlight, and bag. You can spend as little or much as you want. There are many places to purchase headsets and a variety of pilot supplies:
Marv Golden
Sporty's
Sky Geek
25 Hours Dual - $3250
You need a minimum of 25 hours instruction to get your private pilot's license. Your instructor will show you how to do the required maneuvers and then monitor you while you perform them. You'll brief before and after each flight to get the maximum learning from your flying hours. This cost includes the aircraft rental and instructor's time.
15 Hours Solo - $1500
Your flight instructor and the DVDs will prepare you to fly solo in the airplane. You'll be practicing the skills required for your license and gaining confidence. Your instructor will be certain you are safe for the training he/she will have you accomplish. The t-shirt worn on your first solo will have the tail cut out of it to memorialize the event, arrive prepared.
Test Fee - $80
There are 2 vendors who administer FAA Tests:
CATS
LaserGrade
Checkride Fee - $300
You will most likely take your checkride with a designated examiner who will charge about $300. Always pay your designated examiner in cash.
Total - Approximately $5510
We told you it wouldn't be cheap to learn to fly...but the rewards will last a lifetime.
There are as many reasons as there are pilots.
Some recognize a light aircraft as a useful business tool, some have always dreamed of owning their own airplane, some wish to pursue a flying career, and there are those who simply love to fly for fun.
Whatever your specific reason, all pilots have one thing in common – the sheer excitement and love for life aloft!
Dear Prospective Pilot,
Our mission at del sol Aviation to educate perspective pilots to the highest level of aviation standards.
del sol Aviation was founded by a group of aviation profiessionals with an aeronautics degree, experience as a flight instructor, national flight school director, and airline pilot. Sky Blue was established with one task in mind - creating the best pilots in the industry.
Our training environment is governed by a comprehensive set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) similar to that of the airlines. The result is standardized training that leads to the most efficient and economical approach to flight operations. As a Cessna Pilot Center (CPC), all training integrates the use of the Cessna Computer-Based Instruction Program (CBI). The combination of Sky Blue’s SOP’s and CBI has proven higher student retention rates, lower completion times and produces safer, more competent pilots.
The Crewmembers of Sky Blue Aviation Academy eagerly look forward to sharing their experience and knowledge with you. You are about to discover an amazing perspective of the world few have experienced. We invite you to achieve your dream of flight.
At Sky Blue Aviation Academy, we utilize some of the most advanced training aircraft available. As opposed to learning with an older fleet of aircraft, Sky Blue utilizes new airplanes that keep up with the technology of the 21st century.
The new Cessna Skyhawk SP (Special Performance) is equipped with Cessna’s New Technology Flight Deck. All of Sky Blue’s Skyhawks are equipped with:
Global Positioning Systems (GPS) which interface with, Multifunctional Displays (MFD).
The PIPER SENECA, especially to the career minded pilot, is the ideal choice for multiengine training. Equipped with 200hp Lycoming engines; maximum speed of 195mph, and a maximum altitude of 19,400ft., the Piper Seneca is a unique concert of flight training and line flying.
Our aircraft are equipped this way for one reason – to assist you in becoming a better informed pilot to negotiate today’s complex aviation environment.
If your goal is an aviation career or leisure flying; learning with the latest in aviation technology will, when transitioning to more complex aircraft, assist in the learning process.
